Location from Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto
Orochimaru's personal village, less a community than a network of hidden laboratories and experimental facilities. Exists to fuel his research into immortality and forbidden jutsu.
Otogakure is a front. Orochimaru created it to legitimize his operations and recruit test subjects under the guise of offering a village to the unwanted. Its shinobi are experiments first and soldiers second. Most are modified with curse marks or surgical implants. The Sound Four served as Orochimaru's elite bodyguards. After Orochimaru's various defeats, the scattered bases persist under loose supervision.
No single central village — instead, scattered underground bases connected by tunnels. Dimly lit stone corridors, holding cells, operating theaters, and specimen tanks. The 'village' is a series of lairs disguised as a nation.
