Icha Icha Paradise

Item from Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto

Jiraiya's best-selling series of adult romance novels. Kakashi reads them obsessively in public, providing both comic relief and a subtle connection to his dead mentor's student.

Icha Icha is simultaneously a running joke and an emotional thread. Jiraiya wrote them from his extensive 'research' (peeping), and they became genuine bestsellers. Kakashi's public reading of explicit romance novels while training children is endlessly comedic. But the books also connect Kakashi to Jiraiya, to Minato (who also read them), and to a lost generation. Naruto: Tales of a Gutsy Ninja, Jiraiya's more serious work, was the book that inspired Naruto's name.
