Hiruko is Sasori's everyday shell, worn to conceal his true youthful puppet body. It grants him protection, a poisoned scorpion tail capable of rapid strikes, and hidden needle launchers in the mouth. Most people who meet Sasori only ever see Hiruko's masked face and assume the puppet is the person. Destroying Hiruko is merely the first phase of fighting Sasori — his actual body and the Third Kazekage puppet are far more dangerous.
