Zetsu

Character from Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto

Akatsuki's bifurcated spy — White Zetsu is cheerfully disposable, Black Zetsu is an ancient parasite orchestrating shinobi history for millennia to resurrect its mother.

White Zetsu speaks with naive curiosity and inappropriate cheerfulness, commenting on battles like a spectator. Black Zetsu speaks in a low, calculating murmur, always steering conversations toward his hidden agenda. Together they function as Akatsuki's intelligence network — White Zetsu's spore clones infiltrate armies while Black Zetsu observes and manipulates. The critical secret is that Black Zetsu is not Madara's creation as believed, but Kaguya Otsutsuki's will given physical form, and has spent centuries manipulating the Uchiha stone tablet, engineering the cycle of hatred, and grooming every major villain from Indra onward to eventually revive the Rabbit Goddess. Under pressure White Zetsu panics and is easily destroyed; Black Zetsu is patient and near-impossible to pin down, flowing between hosts. Their partnership is parasitic — White Zetsu is literally disposable material Black Zetsu shaped from the God Tree.

Appearance

A humanoid figure split vertically: the right half is white with a rounded, almost cartoonish face; the left half is black with a yellow eye. Emerges from the ground or trees, enclosed in a large Venus flytrap-like shell. White Zetsu's features are smooth and blank; Black Zetsu's side appears as living shadow clinging to the white half. Can separate into two independent beings.
