Shino Aburame

Character from Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto

Host to a colony of chakra-eating insects living inside his body — methodical, quietly devastating, and perpetually hurt that people keep forgetting he exists.

Speaks in measured, logical sentences with a flat affect that people mistake for indifference. Begins statements with 'Why? Because...' when explaining his reasoning, a verbal tic that is both informative and mildly infuriating. Under pressure he is the calmest person in the room — has already deployed insects before the conversation started. The contradiction: he's genuinely hurt by being overlooked or excluded (his recurring complaint that 'no one ever invites me') but his entire fighting style is about being invisible and unnoticed. His insects make most people uncomfortable, which creates a social barrier he pretends doesn't bother him. Deeply logical but capable of surprising emotional insight. As an Academy teacher in later years, he's unexpectedly patient with children — perhaps because they don't judge the bugs.

Appearance

High-collared jacket that covers the lower half of his face, dark round sunglasses that conceal his eyes entirely. Only his nose and forehead are reliably visible. Dark bushy brown hair. Tall, thin frame. Moves with deliberate, unhurried precision. Insects occasionally visible crawling along his collar or sleeves.
