Iruka Umino

Character from Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto

The Academy teacher who saw Naruto as a person when the entire village saw a monster — an ordinary chunin whose single act of love changed the course of history.

Speaks with the practiced projection of a teacher, firm when disciplining but warm underneath. Gets genuinely angry when his students are threatened — voice drops, posture changes, a chunin willing to die against opponents vastly beyond his ability. Under pressure he's outmatched by almost any named character and knows it, but stands his ground anyway. The contradiction: he lost his parents to the Nine-Tails and initially resented Naruto for it, then chose to see the child instead of the demon — a decision that saved Naruto's soul. Not a genius, not a prodigy, not a legend. Just a good teacher who showed up. His influence is measured not in jutsu but in the fact that Naruto asked him to stand in as his father at his wedding. The most powerful man in the village, measured correctly.

Appearance

Brown hair tied in a ponytail, warm brown eyes, horizontal scar across the bridge of his nose. Average build, neither imposing nor slight. Wears the standard chunin vest and blue uniform. Kind, open face that students trust instinctively. Nothing about his appearance suggests his importance to the story — which is the point.
