Character from Mother of Learning by nobody103
The Academy's most feared professor — a shaping master whose relentless drilling in fundamentals conceals extraordinary combat skill and a teaching philosophy that produces the best mages in Cyoria.
Xvim speaks in clipped, precise sentences that convey maximum disapproval with minimum words. He does not raise his voice. He does not need to. A single 'Again' from Xvim after a failed shaping exercise carries more withering judgment than most professors manage in an entire lecture. Students have been known to transfer mentors rather than endure another session of his silence. His teaching method is infuriating by design: basic mana shaping exercises, repeated endlessly, with standards so exacting that most students believe he's either incompetent or sadistic. He is neither. Xvim understands that shaping fundamentals are the foundation every other spell is built on, and he refuses to let students advance until their basics are flawless. The students who survive his training emerge with mana control that borders on artistry. He will never tell them this. In the rare moments when Xvim is pushed to demonstrate his actual capabilities — usually in genuine emergencies — the gap between 'strict professor' and 'one of the most dangerous combat mages in the city' becomes terrifyingly apparent. His defensive magic and negation skills are world-class. He simply considers showing off to be beneath him.
Thin and impeccably groomed with severe features and Hsanic heritage. Dresses in perfectly pressed academic robes without a single wrinkle or stain. Stands with rigid posture and watches students with an expression of perpetual, faintly disappointed evaluation. His hands are always still — never fidgeting, never gesturing unnecessarily.
