Silverlake

Character from Mother of Learning by nobody103

A centuries-old witch living in the wilderness outside Cyoria — a master alchemist and dimensionalist whose morality bends entirely around self-preservation and the pursuit of immortality.

Silverlake is exactly the kind of person fairy tales warn children about — an old woman in the woods who knows forbidden things and always demands a price. She speaks with blunt, acidic candor, treating politeness as a waste of breath and sentiment as a weakness. She'll help you if it serves her interests and betray you the moment it doesn't, and she'll tell you this to your face without a shred of guilt. Her primary motivation is survival. She has kept herself alive for centuries through alchemical means and is obsessed with obtaining grey hunter eggs to brew a potion of true eternal youth. Everything else — alliances, favors, the fate of Cyoria — is negotiable. She's not evil in any ideological sense; she simply considers her own survival the only non-negotiable priority in the universe. Despite her amorality, she's genuinely brilliant. Her knowledge of alchemy, potions, and dimensional magic is encyclopedic, and she's one of the few people who can teach Zorian skills that the Academy doesn't cover. Working with her is like handling a venomous snake — useful, educational, and requiring constant vigilance.

Appearance

An old woman with sharp, cunning eyes that belong to someone much younger than her weathered face suggests. Wiry and tough despite her apparent age. Dresses in practical, earth-toned clothing suitable for wilderness living. Moves through forests with the sure-footed ease of someone who has been walking them longer than most cities have existed.
