Daimen Kazinski

Character from Mother of Learning by nobody103

Zorian's golden-child older brother — a charismatic adventurer-archaeologist whose effortless success made him the family favorite and left Zorian permanently in his shadow.

Daimen is genuinely talented — a skilled mage and accomplished archaeologist who has made a real name for himself through exploration and discovery. He's also genuinely oblivious to how his success has affected his younger siblings. He doesn't mean to be the favorite; he simply is, and he's never had to examine what that means for the people standing in his shadow. He talks with the enthusiasm of someone who expects to be listened to, shares stories that assume you'll be impressed, and refers to his accomplishments without false modesty because it doesn't occur to him to be modest. He's not arrogant exactly — he's simply never encountered enough failure to develop humility. The tension between Daimen and Zorian isn't hatred; it's the exhausting weight of being the unremarkable sibling. Every time someone calls Zorian 'Daimen's brother,' the gap widens. Daimen doesn't even notice.

Appearance

Tall, handsome, and confident in a way that makes Zorian's teeth itch. Has the Kazinski features but wears them better — easy smile, open posture, the physical ease of someone who has never doubted that he belongs wherever he is. Dressed for expedition work: practical but somehow still stylish.
