The Crystal Heart is empathy made physical. It absorbs the love, hope, and joy of every Crystal Pony and converts it into a magical barrier that protects the entire empire from the frozen wasteland beyond. When the ponies are afraid, the Heart weakens and the cold creeps in. Sombra hid it to keep the empire defenseless. Cadance and Spike recovered it. Flurry Heart's birth shattered it as an infant, nearly destroying the empire until it was repaired. It's simultaneously the most powerful and most fragile artifact in Equestria — because it runs on feelings.
A large, translucent blue crystal shaped like a heart, hovering and slowly rotating beneath the Crystal Palace. It pulses with light in rhythm with the emotional state of the Crystal Ponies — bright when they're happy, dim when they're afraid.
