Sunburst is a magical theorist rather than a practitioner — he knows an enormous amount about spells but struggles to cast many of them. He earned his cutie mark in a flash of brilliance and was whisked away to Celestia's school, never knowing that his departure shattered Starlight so completely she built a cult around preventing it from happening to anyone else. He's warm, slightly awkward, and deeply guilty about the distance between them. When they reconnect, it's not a smooth reunion — there's real hurt to work through. He serves as the Crystal Empire's royal crystaller and magical advisor.
