The planet where the Metallic Arts originate. Shaped and reshaped by Shards — first by Rashek's thousand-year reign, then remade entirely by Harmony after the Catacendre.
Scadrial is a world defined by its relationship with the Shards Preservation and Ruin. During the Final Empire, Rashek's repositioning of the planet closer to the sun scorched the land, requiring the ashmounts to cool it with volcanic ash and the mists to provide moisture. For a thousand years, humanity lived under perpetual grey skies, trudging through ash. After the Catacendre, Harmony remade the planet into something more hospitable — green vegetation, blue skies, and natural weather patterns. The Metallic Arts permeate its cultures: Allomancy, Feruchemy, and Hemalurgy shape politics, warfare, religion, and daily life across both eras.
In Era 1, a world of brown plants, red sun, and perpetual ashfall beneath ruddy skies. The landscape is dominated by ashmounts belching smoke and ash across every horizon. In Era 2, the world is green and temperate with normal weather, blue skies, and industrial cities rising along fertile river basins.
