Location from Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
The colder, more remote northern region of the Final Empire. Contains the Terris homeland and the city of Urteau. Less populated and harder to control than the central regions.
The Northern Dominance has always been the Final Empire's frontier — remote enough that the Lord Ruler's control was maintained more through fear than direct presence. The Terris people maintained their cultural identity here despite centuries of oppression, aided by the region's isolation. Urteau served as the dominance's major commercial center, its canal system linking mountain resources to southern markets. After the Collapse, the Northern Dominance fragmented, with Quellion seizing Urteau and the Terris attempting self-governance. The region's distance from Luthadel made it both harder to defend and harder to conquer.
Mountainous and forested terrain stretching north from the central plains. Colder temperatures and heavier ashfall create a harsher landscape. Roads are fewer and less maintained. Settlements cluster in valleys and along rivers, connected by trade routes that become impassable in winter.
