Luthadel

Location from Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

Capital of the Final Empire and seat of the Lord Ruler's power. A massive walled city of noble keeps and skaa slums, perpetually blanketed in ash from the nearby ashmounts.

Luthadel is the political and cultural heart of the Final Empire, a city built to project power and enforce hierarchy. The nobility live in fortified keeps surrounded by gardens and grounds, hosting elaborate balls where political alliances are forged through Allomantic displays and careful social maneuvering. Below them, the skaa masses labor in factories and on plantations, forbidden from going out after dark when the mists descend. The city's canal system carries goods from across the dominances. Kredik Shaw, the Lord Ruler's palace, rises at the city's center — a dark monument of impossible spires. After the Collapse, Luthadel becomes a contested prize, besieged by koloss armies and rival kings. Its foundations would eventually become the site of Elendel three centuries later.

Appearance

Enormous stone walls encircle a city of stark contrasts — towering noble keeps with stained-glass windows and soaring architecture rise above cramped skaa tenements of grey stone and wood. Ash coats every surface. Streets are cleaned by skaa workers only to be covered again. At night, the mists roll through empty boulevards while Mistborn leap between rooftops. The eight great keeps dominate the skyline, each a fortress-mansion of distinct architectural ambition.
