Mistcloak

Item from Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

The iconic garment of Mistborn — a cloak of many long, tattered fabric strips that flutter dramatically during Allomantic movement through the mists. Symbol of Allomantic power and freedom.

The mistcloak is both practical tool and powerful symbol. Its tattered-strip construction serves a real purpose — when a Mistborn Pushes off metals and soars through the night sky, a solid cloak would catch air and drag. The strips flow freely, reducing wind resistance while creating the dramatic visual that makes Mistborn seem supernatural to observers below. Kelsier made the mistcloak a symbol of rebellion — the Survivor standing on rooftops in his mistcloak, visible to the skaa as proof that one of their own could master the nobility's art. Vin inherits this symbolism, and the mistcloak becomes associated with hope and defiance throughout the Final Empire.

Appearance

A dark grey cloak made of dozens of long, ribbon-like fabric strips rather than a single piece of cloth. When still, it drapes heavily. In motion, the strips separate and trail behind the wearer, creating a flowing, otherworldly silhouette. Designed to blend with the mists and break up the wearer's outline against the night sky.
