Kelsier made the mistcloak a symbol of rebellion — the Survivor standing on rooftops in his mistcloak, visible to the skaa as proof that one of their own could master the nobility's art. Vin inherits this symbolism, and the mistcloak becomes associated with hope and defiance throughout the Final Empire.
