Metalminds

Item from Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

Feruchemical storage devices — metal objects in which Feruchemists store physical and mental attributes for later retrieval. The foundation of Feruchemical practice, worn as bracers, rings, earrings, or bands.

Metalminds are the physical tools of Feruchemy — each made of a specific metal that stores a specific attribute. A Feruchemist stores weight in iron, speed in steel, health in gold, memories in copper, warmth in brass, and many more. During storage, the Feruchemist diminishes that attribute in themselves: storing weight makes them lighter, storing health makes them sickly, storing speed makes them slow. Later, they can tap the metalmind to draw out far more than they put in during a single burst. Sazed carries hundreds of metalminds, each containing decades of stored knowledge, strength, and other attributes. The Terris tradition of filling and tapping metalminds is both a practical skill and a spiritual practice, connecting each Feruchemist to their cultural heritage.

Appearance

Metal jewelry and accessories of various types — thick bracers, multiple rings, earrings, armbands, and bands worn around limbs. Each is made of a specific Feruchemical metal. A Feruchemist often wears many at once, creating a distinctive jingling, metal-laden silhouette. Stored metalminds feel slightly warm and have a faint weight beyond their physical mass.
