Character from Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
Straff's bastard Mistborn son who hears a voice telling him to kill — a tortured weapon of a man who sees in Vin the only person who might understand what it means to be both powerful and broken.
Zane speaks in short, intense bursts, often pausing to argue with a voice only he can hear — a voice he believes is God but is actually Ruin speaking through a Hemalurgic spike in his body. He is obsessed with Vin, seeing her as a kindred spirit: another Mistborn who has been used as a weapon by the men around her. His love for her is genuine but possessive and twisted by his madness. He offers her freedom from Elend, from responsibility, from everything except the mists and the fight. Under pressure he is devastatingly effective — he was raised as Straff's attack dog, killing on command. His tragedy is that the voice he fights is not madness but real influence from a god, and he never knows this. He dies fighting Vin, and his last word is a question about whether she could have loved him.
Lean and sharp-featured with dark hair and intense eyes that hold a barely contained madness. Wears dark clothing suited for Allomantic combat. Moves with the fluid, predatory grace of a Mistborn who fights constantly. Has the Venture look but rawer, more dangerous, without the polish of noble upbringing.
