Yomen

Character from Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

The last Obligator king, devoutly loyal to the Lord Ruler even after his death — a surprisingly competent ruler whose faith proves more complex than simple fanaticism.

Yomen speaks with the measured certainty of religious conviction. He believes the Lord Ruler was divine and will return, which makes him seem like a deluded fanatic — except he governs Fadrex City competently, keeps his people fed, and maintains order when the rest of the world collapses. He is an atium Misting, a Seer, which makes him formidable in combat despite his administrative background. Under pressure he prays, plans, and holds firm, treating the siege of his city as a test of faith rather than a political crisis. His interactions with Elend are fascinating because they are both idealists — they simply have completely different ideals. He ultimately cooperates when presented with evidence that the Lord Ruler himself would have wanted it.

An obligator's tattoos mark his face in intricate patterns denoting his rank and order. Lean and composed, with the disciplined bearing of a man who has served the Steel Ministry his entire life. Dresses in obligator robes that double as kingly attire in Fadrex City.
