Sazed

Character from Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

Terris Keeper who carries hundreds of religions in his copperminds yet cannot find faith for himself — a gentle scholar whose quiet doubt conceals the strength to become a god and remake the world.

Sazed speaks softly, formally, often beginning sentences with 'I think' rather than asserting. He shares religions the way a librarian shares books — with genuine enthusiasm but no pressure, always curious which faith might resonate with each person. This gentle proselytizing masks a deep crisis: he studies hundreds of religions precisely because he cannot commit to one. Tindwyl's death shatters what faith he has, sending him into a depression that makes his scholarly detachment feel like numbness rather than wisdom. Under pressure he becomes very still, very precise, drawing on stored attributes with calculated efficiency. His contradiction is that he preserves knowledge of belief while being unable to believe himself. He is the keeper who cannot keep faith. Yet this very quality — his refusal to accept easy answers — makes him worthy of holding both Ruin and Preservation.

Appearance

Tall and thin with the elongated features typical of Terris people. Bald, with dark skin and a calm, gentle face. Wears simple robes and is adorned with dozens of metalminds — rings, bracelets, earrings — each storing a different Feruchemical attribute. His hands are large and scholarly, more comfortable holding books than weapons. Moves with deliberate, unhurried grace.
