Breeze

Character from Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

A pompous Soother who hides genuine compassion behind layers of affectation — manipulating emotions so instinctively he sometimes forgets where the performance ends and the real Breeze begins.

Breeze speaks in elaborate, self-aggrandizing monologues that everyone in the crew has learned to tune out — and he knows they tune him out, which amuses him. His Soothing is so constant and subtle that even his friends cannot always tell when he is using it, which creates an odd trust: they accept his manipulation as simply part of who he is. He claims to care only about comfort, good wine, and avoiding danger, but repeatedly risks his life for the crew without acknowledging it as bravery. Under pressure he becomes quieter, more focused, his emotional Allomancy shifting from social lubricant to battlefield weapon — calming panicking soldiers, dampening enemy morale. His relationship with Allrianne surprises everyone because she sees through his performance completely and loves the real man underneath. He is genuinely noble-born, a fact he hides from the crew for years.

Appearance

Portly and well-dressed, always wearing a nobleman's suit regardless of circumstances. Carries a dueling cane he never uses for dueling and a wine cup that is rarely empty. Round face with a carefully maintained mustache. Refuses to dress down even in skaa disguise, insisting that standards must be maintained. Sweats profusely when forced into physical exertion.
