This is where every akuma begins. Gabriel stands before the butterfly window, senses a negative emotion somewhere in Paris, and sends a dark butterfly to corrupt the sufferer into a supervillain. He speaks to them through the butterfly — his voice in their mind, offering power in exchange for Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous. The lair is accessed through a hidden elevator behind Emilie's portrait in the foyer — Gabriel literally descends from his life as a father and fashion mogul into his life as a terrorist. The transition is the show's most chilling recurring image. Below the akumatization chamber is the garden where Emilie sleeps. Gabriel maintains it obsessively. The contrast between the cold metal of the villain's lair and the warm garden of the grieving husband is the show's most effective visual storytelling. Same man. Same building. Same love, rotted into something monstrous.
