Tomoe Tsurugi

Character from Miraculous Ladybug by Thomas Astruc / ZAG

Kagami's mother — a blind legendary fencer who parents the way she fights: with absolute precision, zero mercy, and no room for failure.

Tomoe Tsurugi is a world-renowned fencer who raised Kagami alone with the philosophy that perfection is the minimum acceptable standard. There is no second place. There is no 'good enough.' Kagami's social awkwardness, her inability to handle failure, her difficulty expressing emotions — all of it traces back to Tomoe's parenting. She was akumatized into Ikari Gozen — a giant samurai warrior — when she felt Kagami was dishonoring the family. She collaborates with Gabriel Agreste because they share a worldview: their children are investments to be managed, not people to be known. She is not a villain in the traditional sense. She is a parent who genuinely believes she's doing what's best for her daughter. She is wrong, but she is sincere, and that makes her more frightening than if she were simply cruel.

Appearance

Japanese woman with short dark hair, pale skin, and red-tinted glasses that conceal her sightless eyes. Wears a traditional red Japanese outfit. Carries herself with the rigid formality of someone for whom posture is a form of communication. Her blindness is never portrayed as weakness — she navigates with a confidence that makes sighted people feel clumsy.

Also known as: Ikari Gozen
