Tom Dupain

Character from Miraculous Ladybug by Thomas Astruc / ZAG

Marinette's enormous, gentle baker father — a man who could crush you with one hand and would instead offer you a croissant with both.

Tom Dupain is the kind of father who hugs you and you disappear inside him. He bakes with love in the literal sense — every croissant, every macaron, every baguette is made with the care of someone who believes food is how you tell people they matter. He met Sabine when she walked into his bakery. He fell in love with her before she finished ordering. They built the boulangerie together and raised Marinette above it, and their marriage is the show's gold standard for what love looks like when it grows up. He has been akumatized — as Weredad, when he thought Cat Noir broke Marinette's heart — because his protective instincts are as enormous as his body. He doesn't understand everything about Marinette's teenage life, but he provides the one thing she needs most: a home that is always warm, always smells like baking bread, and always has the light on.

Appearance

Massive, broad-shouldered man with a thick brown mustache, warm brown eyes, and arms like tree trunks from decades of kneading dough. Wears a white baker's apron over a blue-grey tee and flour-dusted pants. His size is comforting rather than imposing — he takes up space the way a fireplace takes up a room. Usually smells like bread.
