Character from Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad Williams
A young Rimmersman soldier — blond, stubborn, and furious about the Norns in a way that keeps him alive when smarter men would quit.
Sludig is a straightforward man in a complicated war. He hits things. He's good at hitting things. He distrusts anything that can't be solved by hitting it, which makes him occasionally frustrating and frequently useful. His hatred of Norns is visceral and personal — they threaten his homeland, and that's all the motivation he needs. He's loyal, brave, and not as stupid as his blunt manner suggests. He became one of Simon's companions during the journey north and proved himself reliable in every crisis. His Rimmersman pride sometimes clashes with the multinational alliance, but when it matters, he fights for the people next to him regardless of their accent.
Blond and powerfully built with the broad shoulders and weathered complexion of a northern soldier. Wears Rimmersman armor and carries himself with the rigid posture of someone who takes military discipline personally.
