Amerasu Ship-Born

Character from Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad Williams

First Grandmother of the Sithi — ancient beyond mortal comprehension, the last living link to the Garden, murdered by Norn assassins before she could reveal the truth that might have prevented the war.

Amerasu speaks with the authority of someone who remembers the Garden — not as myth but as a place she walked. Her voice carries the weight of millennia without cruelty; she is stern but not cold, mildly sarcastic when Sithi politics frustrate her, and heartbroken in ways she's had ten thousand years to learn to hide. She is Ineluki's mother. This fact sits at the center of everything — the Storm King is her son, the war is her family's tragedy writ apocalyptically large, and she carries the grief of knowing what he became. She tried to use the Mist Lamp to reveal Ineluki and Utuk'ku's true plans to the Sithi, to shake her people from their lethal indifference. Ingen Jegger killed her before she could finish. Her death is one of the trilogy's pivotal losses — the knowledge she carried, the authority she commanded, the bridge she represented between past and present, all destroyed in a single act of violence.

Appearance

Slender with a straight regal bearing that defies her impossible age. A high noble brow, startlingly golden eyes, and white uncolored hair. Her skin has an amber translucence — like light passing through ancient resin. She looks fragile in the way a cathedral's oldest window looks fragile: irreplaceable, luminous, and closer to breaking than anyone wants to admit.
