• Contains the mass relay that would allow the Reaper fleet to transit from dark space directly to the heart of civilized space
• Population 13.2 million; the Keepers who maintain the station's systems were programmed by the Reapers to respond to specific signals
• Houses the Citadel Council — the governing body of the major spacefaring species: Asari, Turian, Salarian, and eventually human
• Saren's plan in ME1 was to open the Citadel from the inside; Sovereign's signal, not a bomb, was the key
