A militaristic species that earned their Council seat by fighting humanity's war for the Council — and who have built a civilization around civic duty and the chain of command.
Turian society is organized around military service and civic duty — every turian serves, and service is the most fundamental expression of belonging to the species. This produces a culture of competence, hierarchy, and institutional trust. Turians follow orders because they believe in the system that gives orders, and they have built a system worth believing in more than most. They gained their Council seat after deploying the genophage against the krogan during the Krogan Rebellions — they did the Council's dirty work and were rewarded with permanent authority. They have never quite lost the self-image of the species that handles necessary things. Garrus's arc is about what happens when someone from that culture starts asking whether the necessary things were right.
Tall, slim humanoids with metallic carapace skin, mandibles flanking their mouths, and colony tattoos on their faces that identify their homeworld of origin. Their build is lean and martial. They move with the awareness of a species that has been in continuous military service since before most current races achieved space.
