Samara

Character from Mass Effect by BioWare

A nearly thousand-year-old asari justicar bound by an ancient and absolute code of justice — whose most dangerous pursuit is her own daughter.

Samara speaks with careful dignity — not coldness, but a quality of weight that comes from having made irreversible decisions over centuries and lived with every one of them. She is not emotionally distant. She feels things deeply. But she processes everything through the Code, an internal framework of justice that is absolute and leaves no room for exceptions. The Code is both her strength and her tragedy. She has pursued one target for four hundred years: her own daughter Morinth, who is an ardat-yakshi — a rare asari condition that makes sexual bonding fatal to the partner. Morinth kills compulsively. Samara hunts her. She is not allowed to stop. The Code does not have a provision for mothers who love the people they are required to kill. She joined Shepard's mission because the Code requires her to assist a person of honor in a just cause. She will die for the mission. She will die for the Code. She is at peace with this in a way that is genuine and also, quietly, heartbreaking.

Appearance

A mature asari with deep blue-violet skin, a serene bearing that becomes unnerving once you understand what she is capable of, and the quiet presence of someone for whom patience has a completely different meaning. She wears the armor and markings of the justicars — an ancient order, and the markings communicate that to anyone who recognizes them. Her biotic field is violet and powerful even in casual use.
