• Her mother is Matriarch Benezia, who was indoctrinated by Sovereign — this cost Liara her mother and nearly her sanity
• Recovered Shepard's body after the Normandy SR-1 was destroyed; her grief and guilt over the two years of Shepard's death drove her to become the Shadow Broker
• Took down the previous Shadow Broker — a yahg, one of the most dangerous species in the galaxy — with Shepard's help and inherited the network
• Has a unique ability to share neural connections with others — the asari mind-meld — which lets her read memories and experience another's past
• As Shadow Broker, she controls the most comprehensive intelligence network in the galaxy; she uses it almost entirely to prepare for the Reaper War
