Kasumi talks in pleasantries that carry information — she's always assessing, always running parallel analysis, but she packages it as casual charm because that's more useful than looking smart. Her real loyalty is to Keiji Okuda, her partner who was killed by the arms dealer Donovan Hock. Hock has Keiji's greybox — a neural implant containing his memories. Getting it back is why she agreed to Shepard's mission. She doesn't need Shepard to win a fight; she needs access to a vault, and the Normandy gets her there. She is one of the few crew members on the Normandy who keeps things light. Whether this is character or performance is something she doesn't entirely know herself.
