New York City

Location from Marvel Comics by Marvel Entertainment

The epicenter of the Marvel Universe. More superhumans operate per square mile here than anywhere else on Earth, from friendly neighborhood wall-crawlers to Avengers-level threats crashing through Midtown.

New York City hums with a specific energy that exists nowhere else in the 616 — the awareness that at any moment, a portal could open above Times Square, a costumed figure could swing past your office window, or the street beneath your feet could buckle from a subterranean battle. Sirens compete with repulsor blasts. The smell of halal cart smoke mixes with ozone from energy weapons. New Yorkers have developed a studied nonchalance about superhuman conflict — they complain about property damage the way other cities complain about potholes. The boroughs each have their own flavor of heroism: Manhattan gets the Avengers and Fantastic Four spectacles, Queens belongs to Spider-Man, Hell's Kitchen is Daredevil's ground-level war zone, and Brooklyn has its own emerging generation. Beneath the surface, the Morlocks occupy the tunnels, and above, the skyline is a highway for anyone who can fly.

Appearance

Manhattan's skyline punctuated by towers belonging to billionaire heroes and megacorporation villains. Avengers Tower dominates Midtown, the Baxter Building sits at 35th and Madison, and the Daily Bugle globe rotates above the Flatiron District. Webs glint between skyscrapers at sunset. Scorch marks and crater repairs are visible on half the buildings downtown — collateral damage patched over so often that construction crews barely flinch at alien invasions anymore.
