A Southeast Asian island nation with no extradition treaties and no morals. Split between the opulent excess of Hightown and the brutal poverty of Lowtown, where anything can be bought.
Madripoor is where people go when they do not want to be found, and where deals happen that no legitimate nation would permit. Lowtown's Princess Bar has served as Wolverine's preferred drinking establishment for decades — under the alias 'Patch,' he operated here as a one-eyed enforcer in a white suit, a period of his life he rarely discusses. The streets of Lowtown smell of fish markets, diesel fuel, and the sickly-sweet scent of opium drifting from back rooms. Hightown smells of money — expensive perfume, imported champagne, and the sterile chill of climate-controlled penthouses where arms dealers close transactions worth billions. HYDRA, the Hand, and dozens of criminal syndicates maintain permanent operations here. The local government is functionally a puppet regime controlled by whoever currently holds the most leverage — Viper has ruled, Tyger Tiger has ruled, and the power changes hands with a regularity that the population accepts with weary pragmatism.
A tropical island dominated by a single mountainous peak, its slopes divided sharply between two worlds. Hightown crowns the heights: glass towers, luxury hotels, and casino complexes glittering against the tropical sky. Lowtown sprawls along the waterfront below: a dense labyrinth of corrugated metal roofs, neon-lit alleys, open-air markets, and docks where unmarked cargo ships come and go at all hours. The division between the two districts is visible from the air — wealth literally above poverty.
