Baxter Building

Location from Marvel Comics by Marvel Entertainment

Home and laboratory of the Fantastic Four at 42nd Street and Madison Avenue. Part residential brownstone, part interdimensional research facility, and the single most scientifically advanced building on Earth.

The Baxter Building is where the impossible happens on a Tuesday afternoon. Reed Richards has folded the interior space of the upper floors using unstable molecule architecture, meaning the building contains significantly more room inside than its exterior suggests. Laboratories hold portals to the Negative Zone, containment units for cosmic radiation samples, and prototypes for technology decades ahead of anything on the commercial market. The living quarters are surprisingly warm — Sue Storm insists on maintaining a real home for Franklin and Valeria amid the controlled chaos. Ben Grimm's reinforced bedroom sits next to Johnny Storm's scorch-marked suite. The lobby receptionist has seen things that would break most people's understanding of reality, and she handles it with practiced calm. Visitors report a faint hum throughout the building — the Negative Zone portal resonating through the structure.

Appearance

A broad-shouldered Midtown office building that looks deceptively ordinary from the street — until you notice the rooftop observatory dome, the Fantasti-Car launch platform, and the faint shimmer of force fields around the upper stories. The top five floors have been extensively modified with Reed Richards' technology, their windows occasionally flickering with the light of experiments that bend known physics. A large '4' signal sometimes projects into the sky.
