Asteroid M

Location from Marvel Comics by Marvel Entertainment

Magneto's orbital fortress, constructed from salvaged spacecraft, satellites, and raw materials lifted from Earth by magnetic force. A floating declaration of mutant separatism in low Earth orbit.

Asteroid M is Magneto's statement made physical: mutants do not need humanity's world because they can build their own above it. The station functions as a self-contained habitat — life support, artificial gravity, and defensive systems all powered by Magneto's ability to manipulate electromagnetic fields at a planetary scale. The interior is utilitarian but not uncomfortable; Magneto has refined tastes even in exile. A library contains works on mutant history and genetic theory. Training facilities push recruits to their limits in zero-gravity combat. The station's primary defense is Magneto himself — any metal object approaching without authorization can be crushed, redirected, or disassembled at the molecular level. Asteroid M has been destroyed multiple times — by the X-Men, by government strikes, by Magneto's own hand — and rebuilt each time, because the idea it represents cannot be killed as easily as the structure.

Appearance

An irregular mass of fused metal and rock hanging in orbit above Earth, bristling with sensor arrays, docking bays, and magnetic field generators. The exterior is a patchwork of repurposed satellite panels, submarine hulls, and asteroid fragments welded together by Magneto's powers into something functional if not elegant. Interior corridors are metallic and stark, lit by electromagnetic field luminescence. Observation decks offer a view of Earth that Magneto finds both beautiful and infuriating.
