Mjolnir

Item from Marvel Comics by Marvel Entertainment

The enchanted hammer of Thor, forged from uru metal in the heart of a dying star by the dwarves of Nidavellir. Bears Odin's worthiness enchantment: only the worthy may lift it.

Mjolnir is not merely a weapon but a test of character made physical. It sits where Thor sets it down, immovable to anyone the enchantment deems unworthy — a distinction that has humiliated gods and superhumans alike. Captain America lifted it once, and that moment redefined how every hero in the room understood Steve Rogers. Jane Foster wielded it as Thor, and the hammer transformed her even as it was killing her. When thrown, Mjolnir returns to the wielder's hand with the force of a thunderbolt, and the sound it makes cutting through air is a high keening that precedes the crack of lightning. The hammer channels the Odinforce, allowing its wielder to summon storms, open dimensional portals, and strike with enough force to stagger Celestials.

Appearance

A short-handled war hammer with a rectangular head of grey-silver uru metal, its surface etched with Norse runes that glow faintly with residual Odinforce energy. The handle is wrapped in brown leather, worn smooth by centuries of use. The inscription on the side reads: 'Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.' Deceptively compact — its weight is immeasurable to the unworthy.

Also known as: the hammer, Thor's hammer, the uru hammer
