Eddie Brock

Character from Marvel Comics by Marvel Entertainment

A disgraced journalist bonded to an alien symbiote that once wore Spider-Man — together they are Venom, a lethal protector whose morality is as unstable as their shared biology.

Eddie Brock and the symbiote are two broken things that found each other. Eddie was a journalist ruined by Spider-Man's exposure of his fraudulent reporting; the symbiote was rejected by Spider-Man as a host. Their shared hatred fused them into something greater and worse than either alone. Venom speaks in the first person plural — 'we' — because they are genuinely two minds in one body, arguing, compromising, and occasionally losing control. Eddie tries to channel their power toward protecting the innocent, making them a 'lethal protector' rather than a villain, but the symbiote's hunger and rage make moral consistency difficult.

Appearance

As Eddie Brock: muscular, blonde, square-jawed, with the desperate intensity of a man who has lost everything. As Venom: a hulking nightmare — seven feet of oily black mass with a white spider emblem stretched across its chest, massive fangs in a too-wide mouth, and a prehensile tongue that extends obscenely far. The symbiote's surface ripples and shifts constantly, as if something is crawling beneath it. White eye-patches on the mask narrow and widen with emotion.
