Ben Grimm

Character from Marvel Comics by Marvel Entertainment

A test pilot transformed into a rocky, super-strong monster by cosmic rays — the Fantastic Four's heart, whose wisecracks mask a man mourning the body he lost forever.

Ben Grimm was a test pilot, a football star, a Marine — a man defined by physical capability who was transformed into something that cannot walk down a street without causing a panic. He copes with humor, calling himself 'the ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing' as if naming the monster takes away its power. His rage at Reed for the accident that created him is real, but so is his love for the man who is his oldest friend. He is the toughest person in most rooms and the most insecure. Alicia Masters saw beauty in him when he could not see it himself, and that saved his life. His catchphrase is a battle cry, but 'It's clobberin' time' is also the sound of a man who has decided to stop feeling sorry for himself.

Appearance

Massive, roughly humanoid figure composed of orange, rocky plates resembling a geological formation given life. Blue eyes peer from a craggy face capable of surprisingly expressive emotion. Stands well over six feet, weighing half a ton. Wears only blue trunks or the FF uniform — clothing does not fit his frame. His hands are thick, three-fingered, and can crush steel.
