J. Jonah Jameson

Character from Marvel Comics by Marvel Entertainment

Publisher of the Daily Bugle and Spider-Man's loudest critic — a tireless newsman whose crusade against masked vigilantes is fueled by principle, ego, and a fear he'll never admit to.

J. Jonah Jameson genuinely believes masked vigilantes are a threat to civil society, and he's not entirely wrong — he's just aimed all that conviction at the one hero who least deserves it. He built the Daily Bugle into New York's paper of record through sheer force of personality and an absolute refusal to be intimidated by anyone, including supervillains. He has funded Spider-Slayers and the Scorpion, decisions he regrets more than he shows. When he learned Peter Parker was Spider-Man, it broke something in him — decades of righteous crusading revealed as persecution of someone he'd employed and grudgingly liked.

Appearance

Middle-aged man with a flat-top haircut, thick mustache, and a perpetual scowl that could curdle milk. Chomps cigars like they owe him money. His suits are expensive but always look rumpled because he's been yelling in them since 6 AM.
