Otto Octavius

Character from Marvel Comics by Marvel Entertainment

A brilliant physicist fused to four mechanical tentacles — Spider-Man's most intellectually dangerous foe, who once stole Peter Parker's body and tried to be a better Spider-Man.

Otto Octavius was a respected nuclear physicist before a lab accident fused his mechanical arms to his nervous system and damaged his psyche. He speaks with grandiose verbosity — every sentence is a lecture, every interaction a chance to remind you of his superiority. His hatred for Spider-Man is rooted in wounded ego: a mere teenager consistently outperforms him. When he swapped bodies with Peter Parker and became the Superior Spider-Man, he genuinely tried to be a better hero — and was more efficient, more brutal, and ultimately less heroic, because heroism requires humility Otto cannot sustain.

Appearance

Short, stocky, with a bowl cut and thick glasses that give him the appearance of an angry librarian. Four titanium-steel tentacles extend from a harness fused to his spine, each arm tipped with pincers capable of crushing concrete. The tentacles move independently with serpentine fluidity, giving him a disturbing multi-limbed silhouette. In his Superior Spider-Man phase, he wore a modified Spider-Man suit with additional arms and a more aggressive design.

Also known as: Otto Octavius, Doctor Octopus, Doc Ock, Superior Spider-Man
