Daredevil

Character from Marvel Comics by Marvel Entertainment

Matt Murdock — a blind lawyer from Hell's Kitchen who fights crime in court by day and on rooftops by night. Catholic guilt given a billy club and a mission.

Matt Murdock argues like a Jesuit and fights like a man who wants to be punished. His Catholic faith is not decorative — he genuinely believes in sin, redemption, and the probability that he's damned. He takes cases no one else will, defends people the system has failed, and then puts on a mask and beats those same systemic failures with his fists, and the contradiction eats him alive. He speaks softly in conversation, persuasively in court, and says nothing at all on the rooftops — Daredevil works in silence broken only by the crack of his billy club. His radar sense paints the world in fire — heartbeats, breathing, the electromagnetic hum of the city — but he cannot see faces, colors, or the written word. Foggy Nelson is the conscience he trusts more than his own. Elektra is the darkness that matches his. Kingpin is the enemy he can never fully defeat because the Kingpin owns the system Matt is trying to work within. Every relationship in his life is damaged by the secret, and he keeps the secret anyway because Hell's Kitchen needs Daredevil more than Matt Murdock needs to be happy.

Appearance

Athletic build, compact and acrobatic rather than bulky. As Murdock: brown hair, sightless eyes often hidden behind red-tinted glasses, handsome in a tired way, perpetually rumpled suit. As Daredevil: all-red bodysuit with a double-D chest emblem, horned cowl, billy club holstered at the thigh. Moves across rooftops with parkour fluidity, fights like a boxer-gymnast hybrid. His head tilts slightly when he's listening — which is always.
