Ehrlitan

Location from Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson

Coastal city in Seven Cities and a center of the Whirlwind rebellion's fervor — where the old ways simmered beneath Malazan occupation.

Ehrlitan is one of the Seven Holy Cities, old enough that its foundations contain stonework from civilizations that have no name in any living language. The city served as a focal point for anti-Malazan sentiment, its population deeply connected to the religious traditions that Sha'ik's rebellion weaponized. The city's architecture reflects its age — layers of construction visible in exposed walls where newer plaster has crumbled away, revealing older stone beneath, which itself covers something older still.

Appearance

A terraced coastal city of pale sandstone and narrow alleys, built into cliffs overlooking a harbor. Market squares are shaded by canvas awnings. The streets twist and double back, designed over centuries to confuse invaders.
