Onos T'oolan

Character from Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson

First Sword of the T'lan Imass, an undead warrior who carried a flint sword for three hundred thousand years before finally regaining mortality and the ability to feel.

Tool served as the weapon of the T'lan Imass for longer than most civilizations have existed. He was their First Sword — champion and executioner. Centuries of undeath wore away everything except duty and a faint, persistent sorrow. When he regained mortality through Silverfox's intervention, the return of sensation — pain, warmth, taste — was overwhelming. He chose to lead the White Face Barghast, finding new purpose in protecting the living rather than serving the dead.

Appearance

Desiccated T'lan Imass — dried flesh stretched over ancient bone, empty eye sockets that somehow convey expression. Wears rotted furs and carries a massive flint sword. After regaining mortality: weathered, scarred, but alive.
