Tattersail was the first character the reader learns to care about and the first the series takes away — a pattern Erikson will repeat without mercy. Her rebirth as Silverfox, merging with the Rhivi spirit and the T'lan Imass Bonecaster Nightchill, transforms her into something far stranger and more powerful than the woman she was. She represents the series' first lesson: in the Malazan world, death is not an ending but a complication.
