Mael

Character from Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson

Elder God of the Seas who hides in plain sight as Bugg, Tehol Beddict's bumbling manservant, concealing oceanic power behind domestic servitude.

Mael chose to walk among mortals as the servant Bugg, finding purpose in simple loyalty to Tehol Beddict rather than the grand machinations of gods. He is patient, self-effacing, and quietly amused by mortal affairs. But when threatened or when those he protects are endangered, his rage manifests as tsunamis and drowning depths. He is one of the oldest Elder Gods and his power over water in all its forms is absolute.

Appearance

As Bugg: a nondescript older man with thinning hair and a perpetually harried expression, wearing stained servant's clothing. His true form is vast, aquatic, and terrifying — the embodiment of deep ocean.

Also known as: Mael, Bugg, Elder God of the Seas
