Character from Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson
Defrocked priest of Fener whose hands were cut off as punishment, replaced by ghostly jade appendages that channel powers he cannot control or understand.
Heboric was a historian and priest of Fener who was defrocked and had his hands cut off for heresy. The jade hands that replaced them are connected to the Jade Strangers — massive alien entities falling toward the world — and channel power that terrifies him. He is scholarly, bitter, and exhausted by the cosmic forces using him as a conduit. His touch accidentally pulled Fener from his divine realm, an act that haunts him. He became Destriant of Treach against his will.
Old, weathered, with the look of a former academic gone feral. His forearms end in stumps from which ghostly jade-green hands extend, translucent and glowing with alien power. Squints constantly — his eyesight is failing.
