Character from Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson
The Sleeping Goddess — an Elder God whose body IS the world itself. She sleeps, and if the Crippled God's poison wakes her, everything built upon her flesh will end.
Burn does not act in the way other gods act. She sleeps, and her sleeping IS the world's stability. The Crippled God's presence poisons her like an infection, causing her to stir in her slumber. Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are her restless turning. If she wakes fully, the world as mortals know it ceases to exist. Other gods scheme to heal her or protect her sleep.
Rarely manifested. In visions she appears as a vast, feminine form of living earth and stone, mountains for shoulders, rivers for veins, her closed eyes continents of stillness.
