The Jewel Seeds are Season 1's MacGuffin and its moral structure. They're too powerful to leave unsecured — even an ordinary cat, infected with a Jewel Seed, becomes something dangerous. Their typical activation requires sealing, which is what Nanoha learns to do. Presea wants them to reach Al-Hazard and resurrect Alicia. Fate wants to bring them to Presea because that is what Fate does for her mother. The TSAB wants to contain them before they cause a dimensional rift. Nanoha wants to talk to the golden-haired girl who keeps trying to take them. All twenty-one are located and sealed by the end of Season 1. Several reappear later powering Scaglietti's Gadget Drones in StrikerS.
Bright crystalline objects that glow with activated power — each numbered (Jewel Seed Serial I through XXI). Small enough to be carried, large enough in their activated state to spawn monster-sized manifestations of corrupted local life. They pulse gold when awakened.
