Location from Mage Errant by John Bierce
A vast magical desert between Skyhold and the Havath Dominion — filled with ancient ruins, hidden dangers, and the remnants of civilizations that predated the current age.
The Endless Erg is both barrier and battlefield — a natural no-man's-land separating the western power centers around Skyhold from the Havath Dominion's eastern territories. Crossing it requires either significant magical capability or suicidal confidence, and the ruins scattered throughout suggest that many previous civilizations tried to tame it and failed. The desert is not empty. Ancient structures, labyrinthine formations, and dangerous creatures make it a place where expeditions go missing and treasures resurface unpredictably. Indris Stormbreaker's climate warfare occasionally redirects sandstorms through the Erg, making already dangerous crossings even more lethal for Havath's military logistics.
An ocean of sand stretching to every horizon, broken by wind-carved rock formations and the occasional ruin jutting from the dunes like bones from a shallow grave. The air shimmers with heat and residual magic, and sandstorms can rise without warning — some natural, some the product of Indris Stormbreaker's climate warfare. At night, the desert glows faintly with aetheric residue trapped in the sand itself.
