Character from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
An ancient spider-horror older than Sauron's reign, bloated on millennia of prey — she serves no master and wants only to feed, making her the most honest evil in Mordor.
Shelob does not speak, scheme, or negotiate. She is hunger given form — patient, methodical, and utterly without malice in the human sense. She tests prey with careful probing touches before striking, preferring to paralyze with venom and wrap victims for later consumption. She recoils from bright light and Elvish craft, hissing and retreating before attacking from a different angle. Her lair is designed as a trap — multiple tunnels that all converge on her.
Massive arachnid body swollen to the size of a great hall, covered in coarse black hair matted with filth. Multiple pale, luminous eyes cluster above dripping chelicerae. Legs like jointed tree trunks ending in hooked claws. A distended abdomen that drags behind her, pulsing faintly.
