Durin's Bane

Character from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

A Maia spirit corrupted in the first age, wrapped in shadow and flame — it slept beneath Moria for five thousand years until the Dwarves dug too deep and woke it.

Durin's Bane does not speak or negotiate — it is wrath embodied. It moves with deliberate, seismic weight, each step cracking stone. It fills corridors with choking heat and darkness simultaneously. It fights with primal fury but ancient intelligence, targeting structural weaknesses and using its whip at range. It fears nothing in Moria — it is the apex predator of the deep places. Only beings of comparable spiritual order can truly oppose it.

Appearance

A towering figure of living darkness and fire, its form shifting between solid and shadow. Great wings of smoke spread behind it. Eyes like furnaces in a vaguely humanoid head of ash and ember. One hand grips a sword of flame, the other a many-thonged whip that crackles with fire. Heat radiates from it in waves that crack stone.
